Thanks for writing this Tanay. I'm not from CS background but this is something even I have closely observed. For even doing things that were closely related to actual field stuff ,we were even pulled down actively by staff members. And apart from CS there's even no incentive like CS to get students placed. Depts pride themselves on the fact that students had to go to MS and spend additional 50-60 lakhs over n above the 6-8 lakhs for Bachelors

I also took CS as the fifth subject in school. But couldn't learn much due to various reasons, but was always interested in coding. I blundered in my 12th, thought I'd never get anywhere, but got into an okay college, and ended up getting an okay job. And I know 90 percenters in school and college who are in the same place as me.

Yes my experience isn't that really different. Even I had opportunities to be a leader and was able to understand people management skills to an extent. However most colleges esp tier 3 and tier 2 don't even have nice ways to network since all of the students suffer the same faith except for one or two students. The alumni can be helpful to the current students to an extent by giving us guest lectures. Some of our alumni did take classes for top 5 performing students to teach .net to them.

Does it ever happened to you that you're pondering over a question all day and then you get your answer from the best place possible? Happened with me...through this letter I got the answers I was looking for.

Thank you Tanay!
