I am the absolute flag bearer against bonds that companies make freshers sign. They are toxic and you should run away when you see one. However, there are exceptions to this rule. I have wanted to write on this issue for a long time but I need a better on-ground understanding of reality and I need you to help me.
Tell me your story. Have you signed a bond with a company? If yes, how has it impacted your career? Have you got such an offer? How did you go about it?
I will be reading all your stories and giving you answers and advice with whatever capability I have. This experiment is something that will bring me closer to you.
Getting into companies with bonds (majorly, in service-based companies) is like Mirage, the company keeps you in an illusion that you're on the right path of growth and will have opportunities to learn and grow. But, let me tell my story and let you know the harsh reality. I'm a 2019 CSE graduate and being from a tier-3 college it's always become tough to get into a good product based company. Luckily or unluckily, in the final year INFOSYS visited my college, and I got selected. I was super happy at that time that I got placed in one of the India's well known company. When, the offer letter came, the date of joining was 6 months ahead. Though, I waited and learnt some more coding stuffs (as I was learning coding from 11th standard) thinking it will help in Infosys. But, when I joined the company (On 1st Jan'2020), hoping this was the milestone I was waiting for. But, I was totally wrong. The company randomly put the trainees into any project (like someone who has interest in Coding or Development, they'll put him/her in Support projects, just like me and vice-versa). Later on, when I ask them to switch the domain, they said these tech in which you're (admin/support tech) will lead you to a great future and even a chance to get more money (Night shift allowances) than others. When I told them I can't do this and I want go in development, they said, development will be there in support projects also (by writing scripts). OK WAIT! You might be wondering Why I am telling you all this in detail, the reason is simple, It's important to understand Why a person won't able to quit a company with a bond, what mindset they go through under their toxic guidance forcing them to work according to their choices. Okay, so I was having a one year bond but it starts once I complete training (8 months because of covid'19), so my bond of 1 year started from 1'Oct'20 and what I have learnt in the past 8 months was just What the company wanted me to learn. I was hoping that once I get into production I'll switch the domain. But, it become worse in the production. There are many rules needs to be followed, like you can't switch your 1st project before 6 months and what not. I was put in an support project where they taught Citrix tech, and told us that this tech is diff and sooner it will be shifted to cloud and what not. The reality was I ended up doing manual excel sheet reports, turning on the services/servers, raising and resolving tickets, in short, a call center job with a big tag of company (sorry for being harsh, but this is what exactly one feels who are suffering this toxicity). I tried reaching out to my manager, and he ended up convincing me or manipulating me that this is the best choice you can have. The thing is these people know, we don't have a choice till there is a bond, we have to follow up and end up our dreams. BUT, I was not ready to give up on this and one day I decided and made my mind that once the bond gets over I'll leave this, I will switch the domain (as don't want to be a part of RAT RACE). I started learning DSA as major product companies ask for it. But, there was something that was missing in the process. And, that was a right mentorship and a proper roadmap. IDK, how but one day (in July this year) I came across "Neog-camp launch video". That video changed my life, my perspective, and a feeling of never giving up and taking up a challenge to switch and do it. "Tanay Bhaiya" came as a light of hope in the darkness of these service-based companies trap. I learnt web dev and completed level-0 within 20 days and applied for level-1. Now, I'm a part of this beautiful Team Tanay Community learning tons of things daily. Now, waiting for level-0 results and soon I'm going to quit Infosys and come out of this trap. Huh! I already told so much, but there are lots of things that I can't mention them all. But, in short I would just wrap in some points that what I learnt from this whole journey. The points are clear Never join a company with a bond, because they'll bind you to anything that no longer be productive for you and end up destroying early crucial years of your career. Many people which are tied up with bonds or stuck in a service companies wants to quit there job, need a change, but they are not able to because of the structure and toxicity of bond. Thankfully, Tanay Bhaiya has taken an initiative to change the life of people like me who badly needed a proper mentorship and a way to quit. As if I got this mentorship before, a person like me who started coding so early, won't ended up providing services to clients and solving tickets and wasted almost 1.5 years of my life. But, it's never too late Right? So, anyone who's is suffering from this toxicity can definitely change their life by taking the charge of your own decisions and responsibility and make a change. As I said earlier, It's NEVER TOO LATE!!!
My story is only a little different , I was a mechanical design engineer , there aren't much jobs in this field so , I had no option but to sign a bond of 1.5 years(35k) as a fresher , during the interview process they said your salary will be 12-13k monthly in-hand , but they held a portion of my salary for giving it to me after every 3 months (calling it a bonus, what a joke!!) .
The work environment was toxic , blame games , abusive language , working on weekends was quite a normal thing. Even on daily basis I don't remember working less than 10-11 hours in that whole span of 1.5 years while I worked there.
Then , I realised that if I am not getting anything to learn or I am not getting paid well then there's no point wasting time there, so I decided to pursue a career in web development, I pulled out each & every guy from that company and set them on this path I myself was following . I learnt everything from C/C++ to react/node. And now I have a decent job as a node developer , in a good company . And I am happy that all my friends are really working hard to make it into this field , I keep in touch and help them whenever they need me.
Before I joined my current company, I had another offer from a company with 2 years bond, when I didn't join the hr called me and said they will remove the bond😂 , all because I had made projects and could really do the job from day 1 , I realised that talent is an ultimate weapon, you can bend these people to your will.
Hey Akshay, I'm also from Mechanical, What a inspiring story man, Thank you much for writing this, Reminds me of line "Koshish karne walo ki kabhi har nhi hoti" Big Love.
Not exactly signed a bond but everyone including my parents and the college wanted me to sign it. Well, I am a fresher graduating in 2022(non-cse). I have a TPO who likes showing results at the expense of students' careers. I was selected by a company on campus 2 weeks ago, who wanted me to sign a bond of 2 years at 2.4lpa. If i don't sign it then i am not eligible for any other company on campus as I declined a job offer. Will be a part of roc8 next year. Already have multiple react projects to present.
My partner signed a extended the employment agreement with her employer with an assurance that the salary will be increased. The bond amount was 2.5lakhs and 2 years of service was agreed in agreement. He is an HR.
Later, when pandemic started they didn't pay her salary for 6 months. She went through a lot of trouble before she finally decided to resign on medical grounds.
When she did, they didn't take it easy and tried harassing her. We sent the employer a legal notice and they sent us a backdated notice and rushed immediately to court with summary suit.
Now we are fighting them with the 'swift' judiciary system that we have.
They have not even provided her the relieving certificate and experience letter.
Supreme court has specifically said the employment agreement should be reasonable but the definition of reasonable is still subjective and there are lot of people who are trapped in these toxic cycle.
I hope one day the justice is served to all those fighting the cause.
I joined a MNC last October and they have bond of 1 yr and 3 months of notice period.
At starting, I was thinking it's hard to break the bond but later I came to know about Web Development and joined neoG Camp.
And then I gained confidence that I can get a job easily and I'll be able to bear the bond breaking charges. And in the month of June, I sent a mail that I'll resign after serving 3 months notice period and will bear the bond charges. And at that time I didn't have any job and when I told few people that this is what I'm going to do so they used to think that I'm just bluffing and will not get which I'm thinking.
But today is the day, I've a job with more than 350% hike and I'm really happy that I took the step of putting resignation in June.
This all happened because of you Tanay. So, Thankyou so much :)
I will try to keep it short, just like a pseudo code:
* I'm from CS background with decent programming skills.
* Had skills but no direction, so joined a service company osmosys(name changed) in 2018 with 1 year bond.
* Started working on a support project, still no direction, so thought I will switch as soon as 1 year completes.
* Started giving interviews after 1 year 3 months, then covid happened.
* Had to work there again since covid for some more time
* Tried every possible solution within the company, still having no direction.
* After a good amount of thinking, left the job in May this year as my career was heading into oblivion.
* Pushed myself hard days and nights to learn web dev while not being in a job and even created projects but realised I was lacking on fundamentals.
* Started with levelZero, adarsh balika portfolio is done, hopefully will complete the rest of the marks.
* Meanwhile interviewed at a firm with no bonds as such, got offer, only joining is left.
* Did this to pay my bills.
* I hope to learn level one with you live next year. Not giving up from here.
PS: I know you must be tired of all the praises by now but you're a grace to direction less students/people. Thank you again, have a great saturday. :)
I have joined a service based company with 7 lpa + 40k joining bonus package. no bond but 3 month of notice period, this notice period itself feels like a bond, no other company wants to hire for such a long notice period. Anyways I have applied for NeoG camp 2022 beginner route , completed all the assignments, level 0 tasks and preparing for interviews.
I joined one of the service based MNC company last year Feb 20 as a fresher with 2 years of service agreement of 3 Lacs. since the role was cloud operation i decided to join. they provided the training for 3 month on diff technology like(windows servers, networking , DB, Cloud, Linux). and they said based on the performance in the training i will get project in on of the domain . but it did happened. randomly they allocated projects and i got into service desk profile. we raised the concern with management ppl, that after training on multiple technologies why they have kept us in service desk role but there response was its your initial work days don't think about the technology and all just work of 2 years here then later u decide in which domain u want to make your carrier and this is how it didn't work. i had raised concern with manager as well but same thing at-least u hv to work 2 year then only i will get movement in domain team. since it was work from from i continue working. Its been 1 year and 7 month i m working in service desk job 24*7 (not less than call center job). though i always wanted to development job. that y i decide to join neog camp . if i get into level 1 next month i will reassign (3 months of notice period) and will be free from jan/feb 22 to join the fulltime camp
I seriously hope you get in. neoG is for helping out folks like you. I am sorry all of this happened to you. India has so much population of engineers that companies can pull all sorts of shit.
I joined India's biggest mnc having 1 year bond on August 2021. Although i performed well in the training, got manual testing role in a project. Hoping to get into neog camp and learn more about web development.
Hi tanay i joined in indian mnc this year. With 1 year bond and 3 month's notice period. I have keen interest in web development but they kept me in sap stream where I feel stuck really feared of every thing doing. Please help me out with some advice @tanay bhaiya love from Telugu state.
Prasad. Learn web development. There are enough jobs. Once you are ready, just get out. Don't care about the bond money or whatever. If you like development, you have a bright future.
I am 2019 graduate with ece background. After graduation i learnt java and did hands-on for six months(too late), applied off campus and got placed in a top mnc with 3lpa + 2years bond. I needed a job since i had to support my family and didn't know anyone else who could have guided me, so i agreed to bond and joined. I was happy that atleast i am gonna be working as java developer since interview was regarding that. Later when i joined the company i was assigned role of sap basis(no one asked if i really want to). I was confused didn't know what to do , still i continued with training and its been 1.5 yrs and am still on bench learning nothing. I have come across you last year ,got to know about web development and Neog camp, i completed level zero , due to some issues i couldn't give interview for level 1 (no excuses its my fault) . i am not able to switch since i am in bond which will be over by march 2022 and i am going switch to web development. I am enjoying coding for frontend it's all because of you. Thanks for everything. You may not know me personally but you made a huge difference in my life. Coming on to the bond it turned out to be a disaster for me or i could say i did this to me , i could have been more careful.
Thanks, Shubham for sharing this. I wish you all the success. I may not know you personally but trust me that all my efforts are directed towards helping you.
I still have so much to learn from you, not yet sure if i am job ready so i am applying for level 1. Looking forward for neog camp, will be submitting projects for mark 15 soon. Thanks for responding.
In college placements unfortunately I couldn't clear the rounds of some of the good companies I was aiming at(they were giving dev roles with no bonds), so now forced to sit for some service ones to secure a job in hand. I am close to getting an offer from Accenture as my rounds went well. I look to get a better offer, companies offering dev roles with bonds but If I do not get one by end of my 7th semester I might have to accept the offer from Accenture.
I have submitted my portfolio and have slowly started preparing for level1 interview. I hope to manage all and get a job through level1 or roc8 before I pass out, which should be before June 2022.
Two reasons. In some my resume itself wasn't shortlisted to proceed with further test while in others I'd be disqualified because of my score in aptitude questions(which I wouldn't lie, I am bad at given the time constraints) since there are section wise cut-offs. For one of the companies that had no such test but a coding test on an online platform, I was able to do it good enough, but I guess the bar was very high so out of 200 odd only 13 were called up for the interview.
So to start with I am a tier 4-5 final year student, some 2 3 days ago a company came for campus selection, it was offering 2.4 - 3 lpa .. i sat for the test with the intension, so i can prepare of interview and test myself (just for experience) i cleared the test as it was easy-peazy and i got a mail after 24 hr ..
They had 3 Years bond like whole fucking 3 years ... fixed increment 50k to 75k for 2 years .. training period 10k/month .... ye sab toh trailer hai ... they were asking students to carry 1 lakh rupees cheque while coming to the interview ...like itni bhi kya jaldi hai bhaii .... 😂 i got a call from the company i said i don't want to come for interview i am not feeling good !
Yess 😂 .. btw i am learning webdev just started of.. doing some projects on webscraping and webautomation unfortunately i cant apply for this batch of neogcamp but surely i gonna apply for jobs through roc8.
I joined Infosys in 2011, they had a 2 year bond. Prior to joining Infy I couldn't code to save my life.
They provided us 6 months training & they told us to forget everything we know they will teach us all the concepts from scratch. In my case (6 months regular + 2 months Finacle) without the burden of a project. The focus was on learning, we had to clear MCQ exam and coding rounds on DevSquare software after finishing each module which calculated score in front of you, that one minute while it's calculating the score was quite stressful. You have to get 65% in an exam to pass. It gives you 100 marks if all the test cases passed and 0 if the code didn't compile.
As I didn't know coding I spent a lot of nights in the nightlab trying to learn. For people who had good aptitude (Phunsuk Wangdu Type) breezed through the training but for people like me it was a lot of effort to maintain GPA above 4 out 5 (People having less than 4 GPA were let go after another exam and exit interview). But this environment also made me learn, become better and finally enjoy coding eventually.
The salary was 13K Rs. (in 2011) in training but they provided us 5 star rooms to stay in where the housekeepers made our beds and when you were assigned a project it increased to 25k to 30k based on your training performance. But the environment was great, the crowd had a great energy, there was a sporting facility of they kind (I picked up swimming, Tennis and Squash because of Infy)
Overall I made peace with the bond part because I learned a lot of stuff, had amazing experiences and made lifelong friends, their training and facilities were world class (There were students from Columbia and US also interning in nearby classes) and I finally learned coding so I'm fine with it.
I Joined Cognizant in 2018 as a fresher and there was no bond except the 2 month notice period which i feel is very decent compared to all 3-month notice period people around me. But getting into a company and that 22000 salary was looking awesome in the start, except that i was from CS background and was always interested in coding, but i was kept in Testing and they said n nothing can be done. Finally after 6 months, i started searching for Either of 3 things
1) a development role
2) a different company( as there was no bond)
3) location preference to hyderabad.
Three of these are hard unless i put some effort. But as said by abhik in your podcast, i had the flexibility to choose my project. i spoke with all my colleagues about my 3 preferences and finally one of my colleague's manager said he's ok to take me to development with a formal interview and the was very cool as i had less than 2 years of experince(0.6 actually) and i got into development.
I always felt that i was working hard till i understood that my roommates also doesn't like their job but they are not even trying to go out because of a bond.
But now everything makes sense, after 3 years into industry. if we resign a job of 25k and struggle hard for 3 - 6 months and get a job of 50-60k, then in next 6 months we will be earning same as if we were in old job , but the plus point is we are in a job we love and we feel we deserve it after the hard work and nothing in world feels happier than to get what we feel we deserve.
A bond is ok, when we are in so need of money and desperately need a job, otherwise it's ok to wait for 3-6 months.
Hey! Tanay, I signed a bond for 3 years yesterday starting from Jan-22( NEC Corporation ). The bond amount is 3 Lakh and will decrease by 20% every 6 months. They asked me to join as a trainee in Jan 2022 ( When my 8th sem will start ) with a stipend of 12k. And after completion of graduation, they will offer me 4 LPA. I have signed the bond just to get rid of the pressure from parents that you are not getting placed. But I am also preparing for NEOG-22. And as soon as I will get to know that I am in the camp I will tell my parents that I am not going to join the company in Jan.
I am Electronics graduate recently signed a service agreement bond of 50k with TCS in April(CTC-3.36LPA) applied to neoG 22 my agreement will be over in April-22.
I have joined one MNC in Oct 2020 and it has a bond of 2 years of 2lac. I will complete my 1 year next month and I genuinely feel stuck and want to come out from here because they trained me on cloud infrastructure services and right now I'am working in support project with 0 learning with 24x7 rotational shifts. My heart always wanted to go for web development. I will soon submit level0 submissions.
Please tell me what should I do. Should I first search a job and then leave or leave it without any backup because I have to serve 3 month's notice period too, and if company hears 3 month's notice eriod then they usually not prefer.
Hello sir i wanted to share one of my experience in my final year of college in the month of July I got an offer from a company which had 2 years of bond and 5 lakh bond amount I joined it as I didn't have any other offer and I was desperate to join a company (that was my biggest mistake) but than after seeing that they made false promises to me that they will give training and also nature of work and toxic work environment I decided to leave the company and I resigned but HR there than started blackmailing and harrassing me that she will blacklist me from the entire industry and also my career will be destroyed I told her I was not in good health but she said that I am faking it and also she said that I will have to give 5 lakhs to the company otherwise they will file a case against me and at that time I decided not to quit as I was scared af but than after some days I got a legal notice from them stating a false allegation on me that I have absconded which was not the case at all but they said that If you are not leaving you can ignore that but I was not my stable state as I was very scared from them but after 3 months i finally got relieved from that toxic place. Now amazon came in my campus for hiring 6 months interns and I got the offer but I didn't provide the documents of my previous company to them because I had heard from many that a negative remark can bring me in a trouble but I don't know how they got to know and now my offer is gone. I don't know what to do I have skills but can't show anywhere please help.
Hi, I am from non IT background, I didn't get placed through campus placements ( got off campus offer from byju's as a BDA) but I didn't join. Found a service based company related to my domain, through linked in, with a 9k per month salary, in a metro city, but when I joined I found they were just filling excel sheets.I had to quit in 15 days, cause I was neither learning anything nor earning anything. Few months later I joined apprenticeship training at a PSU, worked hard to learn as much as I could, and 6 months later got a job in one of the biggest company in India, upon joining I found that the company had monopoly in sector, there was limited growth options, and the job involved mainly man power and resources management, had little to do with my core domain. 3 months later, I switched to working in a Fertilizer plant, but they have a 3 year bond ( 2lac rs ) and a 3 months notice period. I have already completed 2 years 1 month, but from here I see limited growth and development in this area. Recently I have become very interested in web3 and smart contracts, for past one month I have been trying to teach myself from whatever online courses and materials available, but it is slow and difficult as I work in rotating shifts and my sleep schedule is very disturbed. However, I look forward to your help and guidance towards making a career in web3. 🙏
Today I feel very bad and negative thinking about those company who has bond, because I am suffering from bond. and I am frustrated and I don't know sometimes I feel mental. because I joined Virtusa as a fresher. but these stupid organization put it into me in testing profile. which I don't like. I like development field. I also share my problem with manager. they never reply.
and I never understand about these bullshit organization, because if they want to hire as a tester, support. than why they took coding round on hackerrank and in objective type question why they ask Java8.
and my last suggestion with fresher, if they want to join any service or product base company, please ask to HR before joining, what kind of technology there and what kind of profile there. if you are not like that kind of profile. please don't join that company.
it's my personal expereince. because sometimes I feel very frustrated.
and my last favour with Tanay Pratap sir, give me valuable advice sir, I want to change my domain. if possible than connect me once on my ""email:- aashutosh201996@gmail.com"". please sir. I contact with many people but they donot reply me, somtimes I feel I am ghost.
I did sign a bond of 2 years (2 lac rupees) and I was a fresher then.. I did end up spending 5.5 years in the company. I hope this bond culture stops. It plays with psychology of the employee.. This needs to stop
Hi Tanay sir, I always wanted to ask you about my bond but could get a chance, now I hope you will reply here. I have signed a bond of 2.5Lakh for 2.5years plus 3 month notice period, as I was a beginner in the IT field, I accepted the offer & work is on Development(Salesforce developer) but the salary is 13k & yearly increment. I now thought of breaking the bond if I get selected in neoGcamp, just need your opinion that am I taking a right decision ? Please reply... 🙏
Tanay Sir I am 2018 graduate (from NIT Bhopal) and I had a bond in my first organisation for 1 year.
I had planned to prepare for a govt job alongside the job so I joined it but things didn't happen the way I had thought and in Dec 2019 I started learning Java and got a project but in March 2020 due to Covid the project was ramped down and I was about to be fired. I was in a state of panic, I chose to study Data Analytics (SQL and basics of Python) and switched to another company in Dec 2020.
Here also I have a bond of one year. After watching your videos I am considering the option of trying for web development.
Can someone like me with 3 years of experience in Data Analytics apply for neoGcamp?
Hi Tanay sir, I have various offers from service based company without bond i am very confused which to join please guide once Accenture(4.5LPA)(java)(ASE-ROLE),MINDTREE(dotNET)(4LPA), COGNIZANT(cloud)(4.5LPA) which should i choose, accenture, mindtree has 3 month notice period after joining cognizant has 2 month and i am still trying other option out there some product based company but i have to put one of them as backup... and if i joined these service based i will not do more then 1 year i will join proguct based as soon as possible so please suggest me any one of them according to tech stack and company work life balance...
Join the one with least bond and notice period. They will anyway give you testing work or something mundane. Read other comments here. They don’t give you the promised field anyway.
Before join any company please confirm with HR, whatever they profile give you. that profile you like or not. if you like than join otherwise told to HR, if you give nay other profile than I will not consider bond. and take that email as proof.
Just 3 days back, someone called me and said we pick your profile from naukri.com. we have an offer for you. But our company policy is a 3-years minimum bond, 6 months internship with no stipend, and then 15k per month. I am a fresher.
I am 2016 IT passout, I got job in well known service based company (Tech Mahindra). They signed bond for 2 years. After joining, I got trained in coding languages for 6 months. Everything was taught Java, PL SQL, SQL, html, css, unix.
I was very happy and satisfied that I got to learn so much things. After putting so much efforts on learning these things for 6 months, I came to know the company didn't have projects to on board us freshers into development. After learning for 6 months, I was on bench period for 10 months attending support interviews. I never wanted to go into support and I always wanted to work on Java coding. But didn't get any chance to work on Java. I had to relocate to Pune as my initial joining location was Mumbai. After going to Pune also didn't get projects to work on. I was stucked due to bond. Wasted my 1.5 years on bench period. Had no direction on what should I learn to get into development. So started learning dot net, MySQL. But after learning got project on PL SQL development and continued there for 2.5 years. Due to bond and no clarity on what to do next I had wasted precious time of 1.5 years in this company. I have
Switched to another company now for same role (PL SQL Developer). But now I have clarity that I want to work on making creative things rather than data part because it is fun. So I am very keen to learn web dev. I have joined neog and doing level zero. Even if I am unable to complete level zero assignments on time, I know I am going to learn valuable things from level zero. Thank you Tanay sir for spreading awareness regarding web development and inspiring me to do same.
Hi Tanay I'm currently working at one of the Indian Startup . They don't have bond but have 3 months of noticed periods. I have also appears for Neogcamp level 1. What do you think I should do when I am looking for switch. Shoulder I put up resignation and then look for job because most of the companies cut the interview call hearing 3 months time. Or should I look for new job and one put resignation once I have an offer ? Thanks.
Hi Tanay, I have an interview scheduled on Monday, it's a first-round on-campus interview. They are offering 8LPA+ for FTE and 20k/month as a stipend for interns. But the thing is they have a service agreement of 1 year. If we leave the company before one year we have to pay training and development costs worth 1,50,000 for the FTE opportunity, and for FTE + Intern, we have to pay 1,50,000 + stipend amount. I'm confused about it, any suggestions will be appreciated.
Try to look for better options. Read the fine print in the agreements before signing. If you join, study hard for the entire year in whatever time you can find.
Hi Tanay, I was placed in one company where I have to sign a bond around July 2022. Bond is of 1.5 years. And if I break the bond I have to pay 1 lakh rupees. and for training, they charge 35k.
So What I thinking is that come to neogcamp level 1, makes 5 projects in 6 months, and before signing the bond I Apply through roc8. So I can save my 1 lakh money. What are your thoughts tanay?
Hi sir. I am 2020 pass out and I joined a MNC after my graduation. CTC was low 2.6 lac but I thought I would get developer role and my plan was after getting some experience then I would shift to another company. But after 3 month of joining they put me in customer support role. So my job was talking on phone with customer and create tickets and assigned to designed team and it was in US shift. working in night shift was affecting my health so I talked with manager and he said switching project was not option . So I wrote resignation letter and send to manager and HR team. So HR team contacted me said in you must serve 2 year as per offer letter. I had already talked with parents and so I was willing to pay bond price. But they were not willing to accept the money. So after so much back and forth phone calls. I received the termination letter and I was absconded and fortunately I didn’t have to pay money.
So my question is I want to works as developer not customer support role. So if join new company as fresher for developer role. Does being absconded in one company for different role customer support role will affect my future career.
No, Mohit. Any decent company won't trouble you on this horrifying experience. They will understand. Please learn dev skills and get into a good company. Forget about this chapter of life.
Yesss. Will do 💪. Thank you sir for this thread for sharing my story and reading others stories is kind of motivating. Again Thanks for advice now I can truly focus on my studies and forget the past.
Sir.. i have got an decent offer from a company in my city for a nodejs developer. They have 1 year bond + demanding original documents as security...so till my employment in company they will have my original documents.
If possible, get someone who understands legality of agreements to go through the documents. Personally, I don't think you should hand over your original documents as that is a very strong leverage that they will use against you.
I am a 2021 CSE graduate. I signed a service agreement for 1 year in TCS on August 5th for the Assistant System Engineer role. Got selected in October last year through TCS CodeVita. I had no other option since no oncampus or offcampus company was allowing me to sit for placements since I didn't get to clear a backlog in 6th sem due to exams not being conducted and it got carried forward to 7th sem which I did clear the first chance I got. I did not get a chance to appear for oncampus companies after clearing my backlog since I was already selected in TCS by that time. I tried to appear for various off campus opportunities through linkedin but never got a reply from them so I focused on working on individual webdev projects through udemy courses. Found out about neog when it was very late but I did apply for levelOne and practising for interviews.
50K, one year bond is okay Raksha. TCS has lesser of the evils. But during this one year please focus on building your development skills and as soon as the bond gets over, get out.
Thank you for your reply sir. And yes, I am working on my webdev skills alongside my work. I wish to learn more in webdev (majorly full stack since I am good with only frontend right now) and have also submitted my portfolio for levelOne. Practising and preparing for interviews now.
Hi sir.. I'm working at Wipro WILP. They are providing free education, MTech Software Systems from BITS Pilani with 5 years bond for this program and breakage amount is 75K. For 1st year getting 15K INR to 4th year 23K INR per mo and 5th year regarding performance 40K to 50K INR per mo. And my role is QA but I wanted to changes to Dev. Is this a good one to continue here and struggling for Dev? Please reply sir.. I'm very confused.. What if I break this bond??
I think that's the worst level of bond, D. This WILP program is a con and nothing else. That master's degree has no value in the market. And you will lose 5 precious early years of your career.
Get out into a dev role. You career is more important than the bond amount.
The work was outdated and company proprietary code which no one was using outside that company.
It was a pay which ruined my 2 years of my initial work life. The initial phase is actually important for career growth and I was stuck there. Parents didn't support me to get out of that company immediately as I was a fresher and I needed experience. When I came out of that hell , I was useless. I didn't gain any skill which were in demand in the industry. No one was hiring me based on my skill sets.
It was the worst decision of my life to join that company and to stay there for 2 years.
I never support bonds because these companies knows people will leave by looking at the pathetic work culture there. They want to make you like them.
yes, there are few companies which are having even 4 years of bond policy...colleges should not allow such companies .. but they allow because for them only college reputation matters so that they can have a poster of how many placements they got..they don't care about student's career...and t and p cell of college itself do promotion of such companies ..and the desperate students fall in that trap.. the amount of misinformation and advice are given to students by college management is just insane..
that's why i already submitted my portfolio for neog camp.. my college also removed my name from the placement list....because I got a PPO in a service-based company with one year bond of 75k and a salary of 5lpa in my 6th sem...i did that so that my college won't trouble me and my parents that I am not sitting in palcements...my faculties even call parents and fear them ...
...in my college grp faculties even tell that freshers should not expect a package (indirectly they want to tell that no matter the offer is of 1.9 lpa or 3.6lpa or with 2-3 years bond just go , get selected and after that happily do your job in that company).....now my only aim is to before I sign that bond in July 2022 .. I get into neog camp make projects and get placed in good company...
Hey tanay! I'm a 2020 graduate who was introduced to js by your videos. I recently got an offer from a company for a full stack consultant and the pay is also quite decent so I joined cause I've been unemployed for over 10 months but I have two major concerns, first is that they majorly work on Salesforce, and AngularJS for full stack (they are training us in Salesforce rn) whereas my heart's in react I'm still learning tho like my react skills are somewhere between levelZero and levelOne and second they asked me to sign a bond for 12 months of 1.5 lakhs.
If you really need the job go for it. By the time you complete the camp next year, 12 months will be done. Just that the bond amount is high so work extra hard that if you get a better job before 12 months you can pay that amount with a joining bonus.
And don't hate Angular. You will learn few things there. It will be counted as 1-year experience.
Hey Tanay, I started working as a project Engineer in my core field back in 2020, as it was a startup & in search of better opportunities for roles & pay, I got 2 offers one with 3.5 LPA & other 4.2 LPA, but again the bond they were demanding was of 18 months & 2 years. I thought if I join I'll be stuck, so I decided to let it be & started web dev as a career now. Is it a wise decision to suddenly leave our field job back there & focus completely on a new skill, will it be a life changing result?
After your reply I feel satisfied with my decision, thanks Tanay.
Yes I'm into the process of learning web dev & also up for Neog, the only plan now is to up skill professionally, gain knowledge & not think much about results, it will be achieved if I work hard.
As it's said - "You do your work by heart, rest all will be taken care of". I think this is correct path, if I need to think in a different way as well, please tell me......
I have joined one of the ecommerce company. I joined recently, couple of months are over. Now on probation period. They didn't signed any bonds with me. But, I got the news from one of a team mate that, there will 90 days notice period of you worked more than 1 years here. So, will this be good or bad. Is it good that notice period should be so long or it should depends on how much time you spend with company. Is it a trap or its for our sake.?
90 days notice period is bad. But these days it is coming back to bite them. Now the other company gives you an offer and you have 3 months to offer shop everywhere and come up with a better offer.
Karma is a bitch.
My advice: Learn development as much as possible and you will have a field day of offers.
I work at TCS. I had signed a 1 yr bond with them 2.5yrs back which said that I have to work with them at least for a year before leaving the company. It's hasn't impacted my career in any way.
Yes I had multiple opportunities 1.8 year ago and I decliened them because there was Bond.
Then I joined an MNC that had branch in my city, they boast about great culture and environment, and Yes that is correct, all the colleagues were cheerful and supportive,
Heck on the days and CEO himself come to us and strictly tell us to join the counter strike server😂
Every thing was cool until my probation was over, I only had doc about appointment letter that included 4months of contract and after that my salary would be revised,
Well then the real game started, Me and my classmate (who was way better at academics and programming) joined on the same date.
After completion of probation, 1 month went by and we were still paid the low amount that was written in probation document. so we asked for the offer letter, and CEO said "Do not worry, you will get it soon your job is secured and you are now permenant employee" 2 months went by we asked for the revised salary , HR Said payroll is handled by CEO himself, so you have to discuss with him...
we talked to CEO he said it is in pending and will be processed.... 6months went by we were summoned to the office to hear "we were eligible for revision", so I asked again when that would be reflected ? and CEO said "next month".
In the mean time the company doubled the employees in India and opened remote branch in another city while hiring more and more developers... Which means company was never going through financial crisis.
Now it has been 1.4 year + 4months of internship...
Till this date I haven not been paid the difference or the revised salary.
And Now I am on notice period , and with the hike of 450% yes it is 450%
So Yes I think an official document that stats the clear number and what are they expecting from employee and what the employee can expect from employer is important, whether it is 1 year of bond...
So a healthy contract of 1 year is good if one knows what they are getting into...
TBH my company has very good envioronment & culture but they do not justify the componsation.
Hey, this is sad. I agree that big companies are structured and otherwise these small companies are a headache to deal with. But that doesn't make bonds right.
A week ago I got a placement in a company from college. Those people are offering me 4.5 LPA. That too with a two-year bond. Also, they are asking me for a cheque of 2 Lakh INR as a security deposit. I came here to get to know the dark side of bonds.
A two-year bond and 2 lakhs are too much Piyush. I would advise against it. Find a better company. If you know development there's a ton of hiring going on.
I wouldn't advise signing any bond, but if you are in a bad situation then a bond amount equal to 2-3 months of salary is fine. Anything above that is too much.
I applied for the neoGCamp on the day one (15 th Aug) itself, preparing for the actual interview already did 15+ mock. My joining will be in July, but I feared what would happen if the training started in January itself. I am ready to work hard in levelOne. What would you suggest should I decline the offer?
1 year is okay, because after 1 year you can leave the company and any company would hire you if you are good with 6-7LPA, heck My city doesn't provide rich offers but still I had minimum offers around 5.5LPA , luckily I aimed for higher and got it as well. I am frontend dev (react) 1.4yr exp
Good to know, Rohan. One soul saved. Chhote bhai, learn well, learn development. Don't fall for bonds, don't fall for gimmicks, no need to go for MCA. Once BCA completes, come with your 5 projects and take a job from https://roc8.careers
yes sir I have also applied for neog level one. Interview prep is going on. Bas internships krna hai and after BCA full time job of web dev via roc8. Aapka guidance hi hai ab bas sir.
I have joined a big MNC in 2021 as a Trainee Engineer for 6 months afterwards SDE. I have signed a bond for 1.5 yrs where if I leave the company before 1.5yrs all the bonus has to be returned with notice period of 2 months. The bonus if 1.5 lc and CTC is 7.5lpa.
Bonus return, I personally feel, is fine. It's not taking money out of your pocket. I had the same policy in my previous companies as well. Otherwise, people will just take the signing bonus and go somewhere else.
On the levelZero submission date, it could be increased depending on the number of submissions. But I won't count on it. I would submit even if I have to take a few days' leaves.
It's been 11 months ever since I signed 1 year training bond but initial 4 months doesn't count as it involved only training. 2022 February is my last month of bond and I'm sure as hell I'll tank whole lot of job offers as a web developer within February. I really want to break it by leaving the company but I can't afford it right now as my family depends on me.
I can understand Kani. Tell me more about why did you have to sign the bond? You had no other offers from any company? Being a web dev why was it hard to find a job?
I didn't know about neogcamp till June of this year, I was a fresher out of college and i took the offer whichever was on the line first. It was hard to say no to any offer at October 2020 because all other offers were for same kind of roles (support projects), I have started with level zero and now my basics are good. I'm not going to lose this 5 months of bond , I'm making sure to have strong portfolio meantime.
In college placements, I am not sitting in service companies that have a bond of like 1-2 lakh, while CTC is around 4-5 lakh. But I've got an offer from a company that doesn't have a bond but a notice period which I don't know about yet.
Planning to come to neog (done with my submission), got an offer from these companies so I have a backup. Will I be able to get a job before my graduation in June 2022 before I am forced to join any other company through neog & roc8 (if I work hard enough) .
I joined an organization few months back as a freshers they put bond of 2.5 yrs . I accepted offer and signed bond considering that I'll get a chance to work as a developer and will get to learn alot .Starting few months were good as they gave training on various tech stack but when I was tagged to project I came to know I am hired as a QA . I tried a lot so to get my role changed from QA to dev and still trying hard but nothing worked and at that point of time I had no other offer in my hand so that I could quit that job and move from there especially when the bond amount is 1.5 lakh and paying so much money from own pocket was not possible .so this is my story and probably this is the main reason I want to join neog.camp this time.
Just want to say that seeing how crazy the dev market salaries are 1.5lacs won't be a lot. You can get out, pay the money and still make much more than your salary. Plus you get to have a fulfilling career.
Yes sir I am ready to leave anytime .I am not going to spend my 2.5 yr there that is for sure . But it's just that I want a better opportunity in hand before resigning .
I am 2020 batch Electrical and Electronics Engineering graduate. Due to pandemic and hard times I couldn't find a job. I was placed on campus in a well known and reputed MNC, however on the day of joining we were asked to sign a training bond in which they train for 18 months and we have to serve for a period of 3 years for an amount of 5 lakhs. I did not receive any special training nor did I get into the role they recruited for. I have tried speaking to manager about my concern but no luck. I then tried to attend other interviews and have an offer now with good pay and role of my interest, however it's a service based company and I feel I should not face the same there. Also without experience letter and relieving letter if I leave my current company, I'm worried of the consequences.
Actually I have to serve 26 more months. I signed during Dec 2020 and will have to serve till Dec 2023 (3 years) and they validate this for giving training to me for 18 months in this period (not recieved any training tho)
See my suggestion is that if you get a dev job then definitely get out. Even if you have to pay it. Long-term career-wise it's better to have dev experience under the belt and will make much more money than 5lacs.
Thank you for sharing the story.
Inspiring story, Akshay. Thanks for sharing. Keep inspiring people.
Before I joined my current company, I had another offer from a company with 2 years bond, when I didn't join the hr called me and said they will remove the bond😂 , all because I had made projects and could really do the job from day 1 , I realised that talent is an ultimate weapon, you can bend these people to your will.
Hi Akshay, name the projects and place u learned them please
Most of the things I learnt from youtube , blogs & official docs ,
I made some applications on react ,
Get good knowledge of babel/webpack,
I made API's using Node,
I made some projects using django,
Other than that I focused on databases , learn sql really well.
Study about CI/CD pipelines ,
And learn to get your sites live.
Most importantly , even after getting a job, don't ever stop learning.
My respect for fighting the ugly system instead of just giving up Pankaj. You and your partner are inspirations.
Many thanks for sharing this with me.
Ashish I remember talking about this during the camp. Elated that it worked out for you.
Hey Tanay,
I will try to keep it short, just like a pseudo code:
Not tired of praises. Gives me energy. Thank you for trusting me with learning. See you in levelOne soon.
3 months is bad. But don't worry about it too much. Better than bonds.
Yes Brother. Our stories are same. Same thing happened to me 😔
I joined India's biggest mnc having 1 year bond on August 2021. Although i performed well in the training, got manual testing role in a project. Hoping to get into neog camp and learn more about web development.
When is your bond getting over? How much are they paying?
August 2022, salary is 25k.
Cool. It will work out then. By August 2022 you will have enough skills to get at least a 50K job.
Love <3 from heart.
Bhaiya I haven't started level 0 yet beacause of timings but want to learn from you. Can I start now or next batch. Any idea or suggestions
Bhaiya any suggestions.
Are you applying to roc8 with your 5 projects?
Good plan, Adithya. Why were you not able to clear the good company rounds?
Two reasons. In some my resume itself wasn't shortlisted to proceed with further test while in others I'd be disqualified because of my score in aptitude questions(which I wouldn't lie, I am bad at given the time constraints) since there are section wise cut-offs. For one of the companies that had no such test but a coding test on an online platform, I was able to do it good enough, but I guess the bar was very high so out of 200 odd only 13 were called up for the interview.
Heyy Tanay ,
So to start with I am a tier 4-5 final year student, some 2 3 days ago a company came for campus selection, it was offering 2.4 - 3 lpa .. i sat for the test with the intension, so i can prepare of interview and test myself (just for experience) i cleared the test as it was easy-peazy and i got a mail after 24 hr ..
Nimish, you did the right thing. These companies need to learn a lesson that talent is not livestock.
Yess 😂 .. btw i am learning webdev just started of.. doing some projects on webscraping and webautomation unfortunately i cant apply for this batch of neogcamp but surely i gonna apply for jobs through roc8.
Good to hear some positive story. You were lucky.
Agree.. If money isn’t needed desperately then invest 6 months in learning and get going.
Hi Nikhil, can you please elaborate more on what do you mean by "...next 6 months we will be earning same as if we were in old job" . Thanks.
Amazing plan, Himanshu. If needed I will talk to your parents and explain them that you are in good hands.
Thank You so much Tanay. You are the best mentor. Love you 3000❤
Love you too bhai. Don't worry about the future. Just work hard. Rest I will take care.
I am Electronics graduate recently signed a service agreement bond of 50k with TCS in April(CTC-3.36LPA) applied to neoG 22 my agreement will be over in April-22.
50k, 1 year bond is fine. You will make more than that in 1 month's salary when you get out.
Thanks tanay!
If money is not an issue then leave and work hard on the skills. Getting an entry-level decent job won't be a big deal.
I agree on the 3 months notice period. Can you submit 5 projects through roc8?
Hi Tanay, thanks for the suggestion. I'll try to submit it. I'am also planning for neog camp level 0 and working on it.
If you leave before 1.5 years - pay back joining bonus. If notice period not served - 2 months basic pay - pay.
It didn't affected me much as I wanted continue. Monthly I was paid 70k as fresher.
Yup, it plays with your psychology.
Yes. 13k is way too low. And 2.5lac bond at that salary is just crazy.
When you are ready for a job, ie when you have projects ready, do break the bond.
Yes. You can come from anywhere and be a web developer. You’re better than freshers anyway with some work experience.
Thanks and Regard...
Join the one with least bond and notice period. They will anyway give you testing work or something mundane. Read other comments here. They don’t give you the promised field anyway.
yes sir
so, If all are same. I must join which give my prefered location and less notice period that would be best for me.
Thanks sir
How do you know about technologies before joining (as they will communicate this at the time of project allocation) ?
In training they use to tell bro
Before join any company please confirm with HR, whatever they profile give you. that profile you like or not. if you like than join otherwise told to HR, if you give nay other profile than I will not consider bond. and take that email as proof.
Just 3 days back, someone called me and said we pick your profile from naukri.com. we have an offer for you. But our company policy is a 3-years minimum bond, 6 months internship with no stipend, and then 15k per month. I am a fresher.
Run run away.. don’t join..
Yes sir, I refused the offer
You’re welcome. Hoping you would get in and convert this into a neoG success story.
Thanks.
Once you are into camp and done with your 5 projects then resign. By the time notice period is done you’ll be ready for a job. We’ll help you time it.
For 8lacs. 1.5lacs bond is not too much. If you don’t have other options then go for it. But if you have other options then don’t go for a bond.
Thanks, Tanay
Try to look for better options. Read the fine print in the agreements before signing. If you join, study hard for the entire year in whatever time you can find.
Got it. Thanks
Great plan, Gopal. I like that you have done your homework. Best wishes for clearing the interview. Give your best.
I will wait for answer. Thanks in advance
Avijust now
Sir.. i have got an decent offer from a company in my city for a nodejs developer. They have 1 year bond + demanding original documents as security...so till my employment in company they will have my original documents.
Should i go for it or not?
Is it normal to demand original documents?
People do all kinds of shit. What is the bond amount and salary?
Sir there is no bond amount .
For 3 months it is 15k after that they said 25k-30k.. but i don't know is it true or not... Because its not written in bond.
If possible, get someone who understands legality of agreements to go through the documents. Personally, I don't think you should hand over your original documents as that is a very strong leverage that they will use against you.
Yes thats what i was thinking... I am not going join company 🙏🏻
Never ever submit your original documents to any employer as bond-keep. Have heard horrible stories. Never do that
I am a 2021 CSE graduate.
Bond amount: 50000 + incentives (if earned)
Salary Package: 3.36 lpa
Thanks for your reply and concern sir. As I'm a 2020 Bsc CS graduate, can I able to get Dev role by changing company and with my past here sir??
I had signed a bond.
Salary was around 6 LPA.
Bond was for 1 year with a penalty of 1 Lakh .
Bonds ruin talented people's lives. If you know development, all is not lost. Make sure you share your story with juniors and educate them.
Sure Tanay.
yes, there are few companies which are having even 4 years of bond policy...colleges should not allow such companies .. but they allow because for them only college reputation matters so that they can have a poster of how many placements they got..they don't care about student's career...and t and p cell of college itself do promotion of such companies ..and the desperate students fall in that trap.. the amount of misinformation and advice are given to students by college management is just insane..
4 years? That's insane Harshit. Yeah, colleges are a lost cause.
"if you follow the right kind of people then your mindset will change"... I followed you and you changed my mindset ... thank you so much ..❤❤
that's why i already submitted my portfolio for neog camp.. my college also removed my name from the placement list....because I got a PPO in a service-based company with one year bond of 75k and a salary of 5lpa in my 6th sem...i did that so that my college won't trouble me and my parents that I am not sitting in palcements...my faculties even call parents and fear them ...
...in my college grp faculties even tell that freshers should not expect a package (indirectly they want to tell that no matter the offer is of 1.9 lpa or 3.6lpa or with 2-3 years bond just go , get selected and after that happily do your job in that company).....now my only aim is to before I sign that bond in July 2022 ..
BTW, what's the pay?
I don't really "hate" angular, I just love react more.
The package is 6.5 lpa.
Aditya, if you can work hard, this would be the best decision of your life. There are enough high-paying jobs in web dev. What are your plans?
What should we do in this situation?
90 days notice period is bad. But these days it is coming back to bite them. Now the other company gives you an offer and you have 3 months to offer shop everywhere and come up with a better offer.
Karma is a bitch.
My advice: Learn development as much as possible and you will have a field day of offers.
Yes sir .We all are learning under your guidance, thank you much.
I work at TCS. I had signed a 1 yr bond with them 2.5yrs back which said that I have to work with them at least for a year before leaving the company. It's hasn't impacted my career in any way.
Good to know, Amit. What was the bond amount? And what role are you in?
Bond amount was 50,000 rupees.
Currently my designation is Systems Engineer and I am working as a Automation tester.
I will move out after I learn web development in neog camp.
50K is peanuts. 1 year is fine too.
Thank you for telling me. TCS is doing fine with bonds.
Geekyants has 1.5 years bond with a 2.5lac penalty and it hires folks from roc8 too. Is that fine?
I support bonds to some extent,
Yes I had multiple opportunities 1.8 year ago and I decliened them because there was Bond.
1 year bond is fine, I feel that too.
I am still in first year of BCA and learning about these topics like bonds, devops etc from you is so good.
All the bonus received till the day I decide to leave must be returned to the company.
A question: Is the date to apply for levelone will be extended, I just have started with levelzero and 30th Sep is too close?
Bonus return, I personally feel, is fine. It's not taking money out of your pocket. I had the same policy in my previous companies as well. Otherwise, people will just take the signing bonus and go somewhere else.
On the levelZero submission date, it could be increased depending on the number of submissions. But I won't count on it. I would submit even if I have to take a few days' leaves.
Yes I agree it's fine.
I will try my best to complete before the last date.
Biting my teeth for 5 more months.
Though I haven't signed bond, but I came across this video which helped me understand what it is https://youtu.be/Apcz-7hPoTw
This is a great video. Thanks for sharing. I will share it with more folks.
Am I going on the right track?
Yes, placemats will start in May/June. And good that you didn’t sign any bond.
Richa, thank you for sharing this. You’re brave. So many years get wasted for talented devs like you.
I wish I had reached out earlier so that you wouldn’t have to go through that trauma.
But please educate your juniors and save them.
Yes definitely I will help my juniors .
Nd I wish I came to know about u a little early but ya no worries it's never too late 😊😊
5 lakhs for training is insane. A lawyer would cost less.
How many months did you serve there?
I'm serving my 10th month here.
8 months more for 5lakhs. Hmm.. I would say complete it but make sure once you get out you tell this to all your juniors and on Glassdoor as well.
You should also talk to a lawyer.
