For a few days, my Twitter feed has been full of these numbers. First, it was the Spotify Wrapped, then something, then again something. Me being me, it excited me and I wanted to do the same thing with my newsletters. And here it is, insights into tanaypratap's letters for the year 2021.
We started the year with 2400 subscribers, and are finishing it with close to 12000 subscribers. 2400 → 12000, that's a 5x increase.
I managed to write 44 issues this year. Consistency arrived in the second half of the year, and since August 2021, I have pushed out 2 newsletter issues every week.
Do you know of those movies that win almost all the awards? That's the 15 LPA+ web dev job checklist issue. It claimed the highest number of likes, comments, open rates, and even new website visitors. Call that a clean sweep!
This is how the newsletter podium looks like.
IIT and Microsoft: a short story and web dev for the win! fell slightly behind our GOAT newsletter in the number of likes.
web dev for the win! ended up second in the Open Rate, followed by GitHub Co-pilot Emergency!.
The thread that I experimented with back in September, Bonds, the bane of IT industry, garnered 154 comments. It was the only time this year that I published a Substack thread, and am still unsure whether I will do it more or less in 2022.
The best acquisition sources for the newsletter were (no surprises) Twitter and LinkedIn.
Finally, I would love to finish this issue with some of my favorite comments. Here they are.
Prathamesh Dukare comments on the issue Startup vs Service:
Got to know lots of insightful information about things going in the industry. I never thought there can be bad players here.
Thanks a lot Tanay Bhaiyya for all
Keep doing such more newsletters
Love you ❤️🤗
Shreyas says, on the issue Finding the right fit:
Every time I doubt myself about my career, your newsletters drop in and give extra boost to focus, thank you sir!
Shaik Zabihulla comments on the issue Abba nahin maanenge...:
True Tanay! I am also Part of the transition, a bit different, but what you wrote is 100% True and this Explanation of yours is Enough to satisfy Parents or the students themselves. Hope we had the same Guidance during our early 20s!!!
This was a lot of fun, and I am glad I did it. Did you enjoy reading this issue and the insights into the letters? Do share your favorite issue of tanaypratap's letters and tell me why it is your favorite either in the comments below or on Twitter.
Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Loving each and every newsletter of yours, Tanay. Thanks for mentioning my comment. Surprised and Happy at the same time. Keep inspiring us as always. Thanks and all the Best for life ahead :)
We would love to read more of these in upcoming year🦄
Keep doing this
